Two different calls. Two different outcomes. Same Reminder! Chief Scott Hughes

Iโ€™m sharing two recent videos that every law enforcement professional should watch closely.

๐•๐ข๐๐ž๐จ #๐Ÿ: An officer responds to what appears to be a ๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘›๐‘’ silent alarm at a check-cashing business during opening hours. As the officer approaches the front door, the situation instantly escalates. A suspect takes an employee hostage and flees the store before being shot by police.

๐•๐ข๐๐ž๐จ #๐Ÿ: A shoplifting call at a Walmart - another call that many would label as โ€œlow risk.โ€ During the arrest process, the suspect pulls a handgun and attempts to shoot at police and loss prevention. Thanks to quick action by store security and officers, the suspect is tackled, disarmed, and taken into custody.

These incidents are powerful reminders of a hard truth in this profession:

Positioning, awareness, communication, and mindset arenโ€™t just training buzzwords. They are the difference between going home and tragedy. Calls that seem ordinary are often the ones that test us the most.

Whether youโ€™ve been on the job two years or twenty, never take anything for granted. Stay alert. Trust your training. Control what you can control.

Stay safe.๐Ÿ’™
