Relaxation is not a Goal!

Eric Hein:

Yesterday I was reminded again by Dr. William J. Lewinski that selfregulation tactics are not there for relaxation but for optimalization. Matching your arousal to the requirement of the task. As can be seen in the not perfect but good old Yerkes-Dodson Law. Sometimes down and sometimes up regulation. Also, the optimal arousal depends on the task. And the individual his physiology, psychology and training. In japanes budo there are concepts about the right state of mind. One of these is mushin ( No Mind). This is not about relaxation but about beind totally involved in the moment. Where the eyes see everything but do not become attached. Where the ears hear everything but do not become attached. Pure alert awareness...somewhere between relaxation and tension...where body and mind make room for sound embodied actions.
