Roll call is one of the most overlooked leadership tools in policing, yet itโs one of the few moments each day where a supervisor can align the team before the chaos starts.
When done right, roll call builds:
โ shared situational awareness
โ accountability
โ officer safety awareness
โ leadership presence
โ culture and professional standards
But when itโs just reading emails or recycled information, officers tune out, and the value is lost.
I wrote this article to challenge agencies to rethink roll call as a purposeful training and leadership moment, where fundamentals are reinforced, equipment is checked, and officers leave sharper and safer than when they arrived.
๐ Want officers to go home safer every shift?
๐ Want supervisors to lead with intent, not habit?
๐ Want roll call to be a tool, not a timeout?
Then this is for you.
Read it, share it with your team, and let me know how you make roll call matter in your agency.
