Roll call is one of the most overlooked leadership tools in policing, yet itโ€™s one of the few moments each day where a supervisor can align the team before the chaos starts.

When done right, roll call builds:

โœ” shared situational awareness

โœ” accountability

โœ” officer safety awareness

โœ” leadership presence

โœ” culture and professional standards

But when itโ€™s just reading emails or recycled information, officers tune out, and the value is lost.

I wrote this article to challenge agencies to rethink roll call as a purposeful training and leadership moment, where fundamentals are reinforced, equipment is checked, and officers leave sharper and safer than when they arrived.

๐Ÿ“Œ Want officers to go home safer every shift?

๐Ÿ“Œ Want supervisors to lead with intent, not habit?

๐Ÿ“Œ Want roll call to be a tool, not a timeout?

Then this is for you.

Read it, share it with your team, and let me know how you make roll call matter in your agency.
